150,000 smart meters to Norwegian consortium

Smart Strøm Nordvest, Norway

World-class smart meter solution

Norwegian Smart Strøm Nordvest, a consortium of ten power utilities in Møre and Romsdal, has chosen Kamstrup as the system supplier of 150,000 electricity meters. Roll out of the smart meters will start in 2016, and continue for two years.

After a public tender, Norwegian consortium Smart Strøm Nordvest has chosen Kamstrup as the system supplier of 150,000 smart electricity meters. The order also includes a new communication system, which can deal with meter data on an hourly basis and much more.

The roll out of the smart electricity meters will start in the power utilities' supply area in Nordvestlandet in the middle of 2016 and continue until 2018. Prior to the roll out, a pilot project will run in two areas, which will cover a total of 2,000 metering points.

The new electricity meters free consumers from having to read electricity consumption, and advanced bills are replaced by invoices that correspond fully with the exact consumption. At the same time, consumers will have access to the meter readings on an hourly basis, giving them much greater control over their electricity consumption.

In the last few months, Kamstrup has entered into a number of agreements with several Norwegian power utilities, including Agder Energi Nett, Dalane

Energi, Gaudal Nett, Kvikne and Rennebu Kraftlag, and Oppdal Everk. The agreement with Smart Strøm Nordvest demonstrates Kamstrup's position as the leading system supplier of smart meter solutions in the Nordic region.

The signed contract is also clear evidence that Kamstrup is the preferred partner among power utilities that require optimal integration between electricity, water and heating supplies, and existing metering systems.

"Kamstrup's system delivers the highest meter performance and the best integration on the market. This means that Smart Strøm Nordvest can reduce their costs and risks from day one, and during the entire project period. All ten power utilities will optimise their supply and create a business that is even better financially, which consumers will also benefit from."

Per-Otto Lie, Kamstrup's Norwegian Sales Manager.

"Kamstrup excels with a competitive price and a professional project organisation that can ensure the delivery."

Svein Ivar Morslund, interim leader of new company Smarthub A/S, which is owned by the consortium of ten power utilities.
