DONG Energy and Kamstrup in close partnership

In close competition with over 30 international companies, the Danish energy company DONG Energy has chosen Kamstrup for the roll out and operation of 1 million remotely read electricity meters

The turnkey project is based on Kamstrup's smart grid platform OMNIA Suite, and covers system delivery, project management, support, hosting, data collection, complete meter operation until 2034, and direct consumer support via help desk.

The choice of Kamstrup was based on an overall evaluation of the technical solution, its ability to implement a turnkey project, and a competitive price for the service delivery. Above all, Kamstrup's low Total Cost of Ownership, calculated over 15 years of operation, proved decisive when DONG Energy came to choose its future Smart Metering partner.

The low own  consumption of Kamstrup’s electricity meters and the major focus on quality, security and the environment, also helped to ensure it became the future partner.

Integration of systems
Kamstrup's open smart grid platform OMNIA Suite can be integrated with all of the systems on the market. This means that DONG Energy has chosen a future-proof solution, which can meet tomorrow's requirements for a flexible electricity market. OMNIA Suite will be integrated with DONG Energy’s new Meter Data Management System Gridstream® from Landis+Gyr, and the existing SAP system, which underlines the importance of being able to collaborate with other suppliers to ensure the most efficient solutions.

Prior to the start of the project, a comprehensive operations portal will be set up, where DONG Energy can follow performance and invoicing activities on an ongoing basis.
"The order from DONG Energy has confirmed that our solutions are the best on the market right now. The performance and efficient operation delivered by Kamstrup is the key to the low Total Cost of Ownership and is decisive in the success of the solution. Kamstrup's deliverables are strong in precisely these points and together with the meters low own consumption, a strong foundation has already been made for a good investment for DONG Energy", says Sales Manager at Kamstrup, Anders Nystrup.

"We see Kamstrup as a talented partner that provides us with a highly developed solution for meters, communications and systems. We believe their meter design and functionality is among the best on the market, and by using RF for communication, collecting data from the meters does not depend on a fixed connection state in the supply net,"

Søren Rønnebech, Department Manager at DONG Energy.

"Our existing and future customers will enjoy major benefits from Kamstrup's project with DONG Energy. Kamstrup is investing even more in product and technology development, and we're also developing our competencies, such as in project management and service delivery. Our focus on Scandinavian requirements will be strengthened over the next many years, and our customers will benefit from all of this," says Sales Manager, Anders Nystrup.

User satisfaction given top priority

DONG Energy focuses strongly on customer satisfaction. This means that DONG Energy will carry out customer satisfaction surveys on an ongoing basis in connection with Kamstrup's replacement of meters and in the subsequent 15-year operational period. Kamstrup in turn, is focusing strongly on the many technicians who will change the meters at the properties of DONG Energy’s consumers, so that they have the correct tools and the necessary know-how to ensure a high level of service.

With around 1500 meters being rolled out every day, Kamstrup is also focusing a great deal on the installation being executed as efficiently as possible, which is why Kamstrup has developed the isMobile platform for the company's Device Exchange Management System. At the same time, Kamstrup is meeting the requirement for DIN rail meters, which makes the replacement of meters simple at the properties of the many consumers who already have DIN rail meters installed.
"With highly-specialised employees and a dedicated project organisation behind us, we look forward to delivering a solution that fully satisfies DONG Energy and its consumers. At the same time, we're proud to be able to take such a major step towards developing the Danish intelligent grid together with DONG Energy and the other utility companies in Denmark", says Anders Nystrup.
