Collaboration between
Verdo and Kamstrup

The Danish energy group Verdo and the technology company Kamstrup have entered into a collaboration that both creates new business opportunities for Verdo and provides consumers with better insight into their consumption.

Verdo, which supplies electricity, water and heat, has invested in 64,000 intelligent consumption meters and a unique system solution for collecting and handling consumption data from all three types of supply. The solution, which is supplied by Kamstrup, is based around the electricity meters and their communication network which remotely reads data

from water and heat meters.

“The OMNIA solution from Kamstrup means that we get a shared infrastructure for all our supplies, and it clearly gives us some efficiency opportunities which we would not have had with different solutions”, explains Erik Brender, Project Manager at Verdo.

“With OMNIA, we have designed

a solution that gives Verdo the opportunity to make maximum use of the infrastructure by collecting consumption data in one system from electricity, water and heat meters”, says Henrik Mørck Mogensen, Senior Vice President at Kamstrup. He continues: “It is an exciting project which gives Verdo the perfect opportunity to optimise their work processes”.

The investment also provides new business opportunities for Verdo. The energy group currently allows other electricity, water and heating utilities to use their infrastructure to collect consumption data. With the new system, it is even easier and more cost-effective for the utilities to introduce remote reading.

“We also believe that one shared system will benefit our own business, and we experience that more and more water utilities

show interest in remote reading. Not all utilities have the resources to invest in a remote reading system. That’s why we offer a collaborative arrangement in which they can have their water meters read via our network. It is effective, and gives consumers the opportunity to avoid annual readings”, says Erik Brender.

With continuous automatic readings, customers of Verdo can expect to gain a better insight into

how much electricity, water and heat they are using and thereby have the opportunity to reduce their consumption.

The contract between Verdo and Kamstrup covers the supply and installation of 64,000 intelligent meters, a remote reading system for collection of  consumption data for all three different types of supply, and installation of the meters. Installation of the meters will start in 2017 and will be completed in 2020.
