Smart Metering Austria

Kamstrup ramps up in Austria for new smart metering business

As a part of delivery of a 1,000 unit pilot with Energie Wien, Kamstrup announces the opening of an Austrian subsidiary in the famous Millennium Tower in Vienna.

Division Director Lars Bo Kristensen: “Austria has as one of the first many markets decided to adopt the European regulatory roadmap for full-scale introduction of smart meters and smart metering. Being 100% focused on smart metering we wish to support this national roll-out and provide an even closer service to existing and coming customers in Austria and this is best done in Austria.”

The European Smart Metering Mandate requires the implementation of smart metering systems for 80% of electricity consumers in Europe by the end of 2020. But Austrian authorities have set an even more ambitious goal and foresee a staggering 95% of the Austrian electricity consumers equipped with smart meters by the end of 2019.

Some thousand consumers will receive their smart meter already before summer this year, when Energie Wien rolls out the meters for the first pilot. For this pilot Kamstrup provides their new smart metering platform, OMNIA Suite, based on Radio Mesh and GPRS, which integrates directly with the Meter Data Management System of Wien Energie, EnergyIP, delivered by Siemens.

The Austrian office will also function as hub for Kamstrup to enter new markets and expand activities in the Danube-area and with 300m² office spaces on 32nd floor in Millenium Tower there is room to grow.
