New Kamstrup electricity meter opens the door to AMM

Kamstrup introduces a new generation of the 382 electricity meter. This meter opens the door to AMM (Automatic Meter Management).

The meter contains functions that allow the utility to achieve 2-way communication with the consumer, meaning that – apart from getting data from the consumer – it is now possible to send information and to control the meter from the utility.

Connecting and disconnecting meters from the utility

Among other features the meter is equipped with a disconnecting function. This means that the meter can be disconnected from the utility via remote reading. In this way the utility can close the electricity supply to a consumer without having to send personnel to carry out the disconnection at the consumer’s premises. Naturally, the supply to the consumer can also be re-opened from the utility.

Benchmarking demands can be anticipated calmly

With this meter the utility gets a strong tool when it comes to estimating and analysing the voltage quality of each individual household. The new generation of Kamstrup 382 registers the voltage level constantly and shows over- and undervoltage according to the limit values established by the utility.

This is an important feature in relation to the benchmarking initiatives undertaken by the Danish Energy Authorities, which also includes voltage quality.

Focusing on data security and user-friendliness

During the phase of development Kamstrup has – among other things - been focusing on functions that contribute to making the meter tamper-proof in order to secure measuring data. Therefore, the new 382 meter is the first Kamstrup meter with a built-in detection function – a telltale that registers attempts to remove the cover.

Furthermore, the construction renders the meter magnetically immune. It is impossible to manipulate the meter function by using magnets.

All data, consumption data and data concerning voltage quality, disconnection and detection are stored in the meter’s memory for a period of 36 months. This assures the consumer as well as the utility when it comes to documentation of events over a longer period of time.

The easily legible display can change automatically between readings (scroll) or it can be changed manually by means of a push-button. Readings to be displayed, and in which sequence they appear, can be determined in a display configuration.

The meter is available as a 4-quadrant meter thus assuring safe registration of different data such as active positive and negative energy as well as reactive positive and negative energy.

One meter – 4 basic versions:

The Kamstrup 382 meter comes in 4 basic versions:

  • 382 Basic – this meter contains all the well known features from the previous generation
  • 382 Communication – is the standard version equipped with radio communication for automatic meter reading and control
  • 382 Disconnect – opens the possibility of connection and disconnection from the utility
  • 382 Everything – contains all the above-mentioned features

The final configuration of the meter is defined in a close teamwork between the utility and Kamstrup. Thus the meter will be supplied from the factory with features covering both present and future needs. In this way minimal handling at the installation as well as minimization of costs in connection with retrofitting modules are assured.

Automatic meter reading

The new 382 meter can naturally be supplied with network function opening a wide range of possibilities for wireless data collection. With Kamstrup’s system solutions for automatic meter reading the utility can quickly and accurately register the consumers’ energy consumption. The collected consumption data can be transferred to all known invoicing systems and analyser or calculating programmes.
